Manti Two Hitter Shuts Out Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 9 ranked Huskies shutout the UAB Blazers, 6-0, Thursday night at Mary Bowers Field.
Freshman Samantha Manti (6-1) started for the Huskies and gave up only two hits and struck out four during her six innings in the circle.
The win was highlighted by a fifth inning three-run home run from Casey Stangel, her 10th of the season.
After two scoreless innings, the Huskies got on board to take a 3-0 lead over the Blazers. Kelly Burdick singled on a bunt, followed by a walk to Ali Aguilar. Sis Bates hit a double deep into centerfield scoring both runners. Casey Stangel hit the ball up the middle for an RBI-single, scoring Bates from second.
In the fifth inning the Huskies added on three more runs on a three-run homer from Stangel. Aguilar got on base with a single to the pitcher. Bates reached first on a fielding error, advancing Aguilar to second. Stangel brought the two home on the one-out home run.
Washington will continue their non-conference road trip tomorrow when they open their two-game series at No. 12/12 Alabama. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m. PT at Rhoads Stadium and will be aired live on the SEC Network+.
