
Huskies Collect Season High 17 Hits, Defeat UCLA Sunday Night

SEATTLE – The No. 8 University of Washington Huskies collected a season-high 17 hits Sunday night and defeated the No. 13 UCLA Bruins, 12-7, at Husky Softball Stadium.
Seniors Ali Aguilar and Casey Stangel helped propel the Husky offense, blasting two home runs apiece and combining for eight RBIs on the night. Stangel went 4-for-4 and Aguilar when 3-for-4 during the Huskies' 12-7 rout.
Stangel got things started in the first inning with a solo home run. UCLA responded in the top of the second with a two-run home run from Bubba Nickles.
The Bruins' lead didn't last long as Stangel stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the second and hit an RBI single to center field to tie the game at 2-2.
Washington took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning off a sky-high home run from Aguilar.
The Huskies scored the majority of their runs in their final two innings after, scoring nine total runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Kirstyn Thomas walked and advanced on a wild pitch thrown to Trysten Melhart, who then issued also walked. After Thomas advanced to third on a wild pitch, Thomas came home on a double steal.
Aguilar hit her second home run in as many at bats to score Melhart from second. Stangel and Morganne Flores were walked and Van Zee singled up the middle to push Stangel home. Sis Bates hit another RBI single and brought in the team's fifth and final run of the inning. The Huskies finished the fifth inning ahead, 8-3.
The Bruins scored two more runs in the top of the sixth, but that was no trouble for the Huskies as they scored four more off six hits in the bottom of the frame. Kelly Burdick singled to get the momentum going, followed by an Aguilar double. Stangel pounded her second home run of the day, a three-run blast. Flores doubled to get in scoring position and was plated by Maggie Gallagher, who singled to right field.
Five Huskies had multi-hit nights: Stangel, Aguilar, Flores, Bates and Thomas.
Washington will play at home next weekend when they host Oregon State. The series begins Friday, April 7 at 5 p.m. PT. The teams will meet again on Saturday at 3 p.m. PT and wrap up the series on Sunday at 5 p.m. PT. All three games will air live on the Pac-12 Network.
