Dawgs Announce Their 2017 Spring Schedule
February 10, 2017 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – The Washington women's soccer team announced their spring schedule today, highlighted by a match on Saturday April 8th with the Seattle Reign FC at Husky Soccer Stadium.
"We're excited for our spring schedule because it presents us with five terrific opportunities to improve," said head coach Lesle Gallimore. "Each match will provide a unique challenge for our team. This time of year is difficult for all DI college soccer players because of the limits placed on training. Many players spend time on their own working with the ball or playing pick up, but in the eight hour period we are only allowed two hours of actual soccer instruction with the team. We'll move to our 20-hour period just before finals and spring break but then we're right into the meat of things when the team returns for spring quarter."
The Huskies will play their first match of the spring on April 2nd when they travel to Evergreen State to face the Geoducks at 1 p.m.
"Our game on the road at Evergreen State will be a great test to see what the players are able to maintain during finals and spring break, and to assess their ability to continue to prepare well on their own," said Gallimore. "We'll have only three to four trainings before that match but our expectation is that our team will look as sharp as possible for the contest and use it as great 11-aside preparation for our second match six days later."
UW will then return home for their April 8th matchup with the Reign, which is slated to begin at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m. Admission and parking for the event will be free, but a recommended donation of $5 upon entry will get you a raffle ticket to win both Husky and Reign FC prizes. All proceeds from the match will benefit the Austen Everett Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps children with life threatening illnesses engage with athletic teams to empower and honor them and their families.
