Huskies Set for Foreign Tour in Australia and New Zealand, July 31-Aug. 11

SEATTLE – The University of Washington men's basketball team will take a foreign tour this summer and head to Australia and New Zealand July 31-August 11. The squad will compete in five games against teams from Down Under along with getting the full cultural experience with sightseeing and tours.
The Huskies will land in Melbourne on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and following a trip to the Queen Victoria Market on Wednesday, Aug. 3, will face the Dandenong Rangers that evening. On Thursday, Aug. 4, UW will tour the Royal Melbourne Zoo and then take on the Frankston Blues that night.
Freshman Sam Timmins (Dunedin, New Zealand) and the Dawgs will then head to Timmins' home country on Friday, Aug. 5. Washington will spend four days in Christchurch and face the Mainland Eagles on Sunday, Aug. 7 before returning to Australia, this time landing in Sydney.
Following a game on Monday, Aug. 8 against the Sydney University Lions, the Huskies will get a chance to tour the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday before facing the Sydney Comets on Wednesday, Aug. 10. The group will return to the states on August 12.
In conjunction with their trip, the squad is enrolled in a class to prepare them for the trip, learning about the Australian culture and what to expect while overseas. Foreign tours are allowed for NCAA teams every four years. Washington last visited Spain, France, Monaco and Senegal in the summer of 2012.
