
Bierria Wins 109th Flaherty Award At UW Banquet

Ross, Baker, Turner and Coleman earn MVP awards.
SEATTLE – Junior linebacker Keishawn Bierria won the 109th annual Guy Flaherty Award, the Washington football program's oldest and most prestigious team award while John Ross (offense), Budda Baker (defense), and Lavon Coleman and Ezekiel Turner (special teams) won Most Outstanding Player honors at the Husky football team's postseason awards ceremony Sunday.
Bierria, from Carson, Calif., capped the afternoon with his acceptance of the Guy Flaherty Award, given to the UW's most inspirational player and voted on by the players and first awarded in 1908.
Ross, a junior receiver from Long Beach, Calif., earned offensive MVP honors after having turned in one of the great receiving seasons in UW history. He heads into the postseason with 76 catches for 1,122 yards and 17 touchdowns, one shy of the UW and Pac-12 record.
Baker, a junior defensive back from Bellevue, Wash., has led a rugged Husky defense and one of the best secondary units in the nation. He has 65 tackles, including a team-high nine tackles for loss.
Turner (Pasadena, Md.) and Coleman (Lompoc, Calif.) were honored for their work on the Husky special teams. Coleman also shared the Husky Excellence Award, voted on by the coaches, along with outside linebacker Connor O'Brien (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.).
Senior offensive lineman Jake Eldrenkamp (Medina, Wash.), won the John P. Angel Offensive Lineman of the Year while sophomore Greg Gaines (La Habra, Calif.) was named winner of the L. Wait Rising Defensive Lineman of the Year. Safety Taylor Rapp (Bellingham, Wash.) shared the Travis Spring Freshman of the Year Award.
Senior Joe Mathis was also honored with the Chuck Niemi Big Hit Award, for a big hit in the win over Oregon, while sophomore wide receiver Chico McClatcher (Federal Way, Wash.) won the Earle T. Glant Tough Husky Award.
The Husky Fever 12th Man Award was presented to senior defensive back Hayden Schuh (Vancouver, Wash.), senior outside linebacker Psalm Wooching (Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i) went home with the Academic Achievement Award. Eldrenkamp won the 101 Club Academic Excellence Award while senior defensive lineman Damion Turpin (Compton, Calif.) and senior tight end Jeff Lindquist (Mercer Island, Wash.) were co-winners of the Don James Perseverance Award.
Senior cornerback Kevin King (Oakland, Calif.) was honored with the Tyee Sports Council Community Service Award while senior tight end Darrell Daniels (Pittsburg, Calif.) and senior kicker Cameron Van Winkle (Fall City, Wash.) shared the first Make-a-Wish Award.
The Bob Jarvis Offensive Scout Squad Player of the Year went to freshman quarterback Daniel Bridge-Gadd (Phoenix, Ariz.), the Mark Drennan Defensive Scout Squad Player of the Year was given to freshman defensive back Byron Murphy (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and freshman defensive tackle Ryan Bowman Belleuve, Wash.), and the Brian Stapp Special Teams Scout Squad Player of the Year Award was presented to junior tailback Ralph Kinne (Shelton, Wash.).
For his work in the weight room, Murphy was presented the Ultimate Loco Perros Award while senior offensive lineman Shane Brostek (Kamuela, Hawai'i) was named the winner of the Iron Husky Award. For his 61-yard TD reception in the win at Washington State, junior Dante Pettis (San Clemente, Calif.) picked up the Apple Cup Play of the Game Award.
The Kurt Gegner Memorial Award, given to student staff members, went to Kyle Thomas (equipment), Jordan Clizer (video) and Anna DeLeo (training room).
