Women’s Hoops Inks Collier In Early Signing Period
November 09, 2016 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE -- University of Washington women's basketball head coach Mike Neighbors announced Wednesday (Nov. 9) the signing of Kierra Collier to a National Letter of Intent to join the Huskies for the 2017-18 academic year. The early signing period began today and runs through Nov. 16.
"Everyone who sees Kierra Collier for the first time will see exactly what our staff and our players saw in her," said Neighbors. " She is a perfect fit for our campus and a perfect fit for our style of play. She is a committed student in the classroom and has a planned future that will only blossom in a world-class city like Seattle. Kierra is a spirited guard that is dynamic in transition and methodical in the half court. Having played scholastically for a former collegiate coach, as well as travel ball with a current collegiate coach, she will be ready when she arrives on campus. She is proud to be a Husky and we are proud she is."
Collier, a 5-6 point guard, is a senior at Truman High School in Independence, Missouri where she plays under head coach Steve Cassidy. A four-star recruit, Collier is ranked No. 55 by Prospects Nation and was named First Team Missouri Class 5 All-State as a junior. The three-time all-conference, all-district and all-state guard is a two-time finalist for the coveted DiRenna Award presented to the Kansas City Metro Area Player of the Year.
"Kierra is the quickest kid I have seen at the high school level," said Cassidy. "Her speed, along with a superb skill-set, makes her one of the top guards in the country. She can get to the rim and finish the acrobatic layup, hit the three, score the midrange pull-up jumper and penetrate to create open opportunities for teammates. Kierra is an excellent student, servant leader and supportive teammate. The University of Washington has signed a tremendous person and player."
Collier has scored over 1,200 points in three seasons of varsity competition while shooting 49 percent from the field. She has scored in double figures in 53 consecutive contests and has scored over 20 points in over 20 of those games. The point guard has reached the 30 point plateau on three occasions.
Before enrolling at Truman, Collier played her freshman year at Blue Valley North High School under Ann Fritz. In her first season as a sophomore, she led the Patriots in scoring (15.8) and assists (4.4) and helped her team to the state playoffs. For her efforts, she was chosen as The Examiner's Player of the Year.
