November 08, 2016 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE - UW gymnastics announced the addition of two gymnasts on National Signing Day, getting letters of intent from Jennifer Oh (Plano, Texas) and Geneva Thompson (Edgewood, Wash.).
"Caleb, Chad and I could not be more excited to have these young women joining our team," said head coach Elise Ray. "They each bring something so unique in their gymnastics. Most importantly, they embody what our program is all about. They will exemplify our core values and culture, while elevating the level of our program with their gymnastics. We cannot wait to have them in Purple and Gold!"

World Olympic Gymnastics Academy

Daughter of Sam and Young Hwa Oh, Jennifer Oh comes to the Huskies from Plano, Texas, where she is currently a student at the Texas Connections Academy. As a Junior Olympics National Qualifier in 2015, Oh continued her success into 2016 where she finished third in the All-Around competition at the J.O Nationals in Ft. Worth, Texas.
"Jennifer will have an immediate impact on our program through her exquisite lines, flexibility and execution," said Elise Ray. "College gymnastics is all about how perfect the routines can be, and Jennifer's routines exemplify this high quality. She's a hard worker and tough competitor; someone who will make a difference in taking UW Gymnastics to the next level."
In 2016, Oh placed first in all-around, and second on vault, beam, and floor at the Texas State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she placed second in all-around and floor, while placing first on beam. Oh's other major competitions include the Alamo Classic (2nd place vault, 3rd place AA), the WOGA Classic (1st place floor), and the Everest Classic (1st on bars).
Oh has been attending virtual school at the Texas Connections Academy for the last three years, and trains at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy (WOGA) under coaches Janelle McDonald and Livia Ponoran. In her free time, Oh loves to draw and listen to music. She is also part of the Student Council at her local church.
Geneva Thompson
Edgewood, Wash.
Metropolitan Gymnastics

Geneva Thompson joins the GymDawgs from Edgewood, Wash. where she trains at Metropolitan Gymnastics. In 2014, Thompson won first place on floor, vault, and all around at the State Championships. That same year she finished first in the all-around competition at Regionals and finished second on vault at Western Nationals.
"We are thrilled to have Geneva join our team," said Ray. "She's a long time UW Gymnastics fan being that she lives nearby, so we can't wait to have her passion amongst us. Geneva is extremely powerful; you will see skills from her that are done only by the best around the country, and she makes them look effortless. She's fierce, humble, and I see her being capable of being one of UW Gymnastics' bests."
The following year, Thompson received two medals for her success on vault and bars at Nationals. During the 2016 season, Thompson made it to Nationals in Texas where she placed fifth on vault. As a team captain of her gym for three straight years she is able to show her leadership skills and her ability to work well with others.
The 2017 signing class will compete starting in the 2018 season and will become part of the class of 2021.
Fans of the GymDawgs will get their first look at the current Huskies at the annual Purple & Gold meet on Monday, December 5 at 11 a.m. PT. The event is free and open to all UW gymnastic fans, and will include a meet and greet with the team. The GymDawgs open their season on Saturday, Jan. 14 on the road in a tri-meat against Ohio State and Michigan in Columbus, Ohio.
