November 04, 2016 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE -- Dominic Green scored 25 points off the bench and David Crisp added 23 to lead six double-digit scorers in Washington's 109-103 exhibition win over Western Washington Thursday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.
The Huskies led by as many as nine points in the second half, but the pesky Vikings would never go away in an offensive-minded game that saw the two teams combine to shoot 92 free throws.
Western Washington managed to take a three-point lead, 87-84, with 4:21 remaining in the game before freshman phenom Markelle Fultz went on a personal 6-0 run to give the home team the lead for good. Fultz finished his UW debut with 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a blocked shot.
Jeffrey Parker led all scorers with 28 points for the Vikings.
"If you follow the Vikings from Western this year, I'm sure they're going to have a very exciting season," said Husky coach Lorenzo Romar. "They really shoot the ball."
The Huskies also learned they can shoot the ball well, too. They connected on 53-percent (33-of-62) of their shots from the field on the night, including 9-of-22 from three-point range. Matisse Thybulle was 3-of-5 from behind the arc and scored 17 points, while Green connected for 3-of-8 from three-point land.
Washington went to the line 52 times, but only was able to convert on 34 of those opportunities (65%). Crisp scored 13 of his points (on 15 attempts) from the line.
The Huskies open the regular season Sunday, Nov. 13 versus Yale at Alaska Airlines Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
