Ross Named Semifinalist For Biletnikoff Award
November 14, 2016 | Football
Washington junior receiver John Ross (Long Beach, Calif.) was named a semifinalist for the 2016 Biletnikoff Award, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced Monday.
Ross is second in the nation with 15 touchdown receptions and ranks eighth with 10.2 points per game. Both totals lead the Pac-12 Conference.
For the season, Ross has 52 catches for 896 yards. His catch total ranks fifth in the Pac-12 and his yardage total is second most.
He averages a touchdown every 3.5 receptions and currently sits second all-time in UW single-season history for TD catches, trailing only Mario Bailey (18). He has made a touchdown reception in eight of 10 games this season.
Ross has surpassed 100 yards receiving three times this season, including in each of the last two games. On Nov. 5 against California, Ross gained a career-high 208 yards through the air. It was the sixth time in UW history that a Husky receiver went over 200 yards, the first time since 2003.
The semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, and former receivers.
The 2016 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on December 8, 2016, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast 4:00 - 6:00pm (PST) on ESPN. College Football Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard will present the 2016 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show.
