Oct. 22, 2008

With October designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the University of Washington athletic department will launch a season-long campaign designed to bring attention to this serious issue.

Beginning Friday when the Husky volleyball team hosts rival Washington State, UW will initiate the first of four events that will help generate awareness for breast cancer. Pink ribbons will be distributed to those in attendance and donations will be collected for a variety of Breast Cancer Awareness Organizations.

Fans making donations will be eligible to win a variety of prizes including football tickets, basketball tickets and autographed merchandise.

UW athletics is asking everyone in attendance to wear pink at Friday's "Huskies Dig For The Cure" to show support for those who's lives have been affected by cancer. A limited number of pink "Real Dawgs Wear Purple & Pink" shirts will be distributed at all four events. Shirts are also available for purchase in the Husky Team Shop.

Other events include the Feb. 20 & 22 women's basketball games against UCLA and USC, the Jan. 16 gymnastics tri-meet with Stanford, SPU and Sacramento State and the May 2 softball game against Oregon.

Go Huskies!
