Rempe Named to Senior Associate AD Position
Oct. 17, 2008 SEATTLE - Highly-respected University of Oklahoma athletics administrator Stephanie Rempe has been named to the position of senior associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator at the University of Washington, director of athletics Scott Woodward announced today. Rempe (pronounced REMP) will be a key senior member of the athletic department's management team and will serve as the department's liaison to various Pacific-10 Conference and NCAA committees. She will oversee the day-to-day operations for men's and women's basketball, as well as several Olympic sports, and will have additional responsibilities that will be determined as Woodward continues to restructure department operations. "We are really fortunate to add Stephanie as a senior member of our athletics staff," said Woodward. "She is a top-notch administrator who has earned a great deal of respect among her peers throughout the country. When I initiated a search for this position, Stephanie clearly emerged as the perfect candidate and I am really pleased she accepted the position. I think our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the entire Husky community will benefit from her commitment to our institution." She will begin her duties at Washington in mid-November. "I am really excited for this opportunity at the University of Washington," said Rempe. "I am a West Coast native and my roots are in the Pac-10, where I was a student-athlete and I started my professional career. I have always had the highest regard for the University of Washington. I value working at institutions that compete at the highest levels of college athletics and operate with integrity as well as a true regard for the overall development of its student-athletes. Washington matches those values." Since joining the Oklahoma athletics staff in 2003, Rempe served in a number of capacities - most notably serving as the sport administrator for men's basketball, volleyball, men's and women's gymnastics, wrestling and softball. During her tenure, she also had oversight responsibilities for women's basketball, soccer, men's and women's cross country, indoor and outdoor track, the sports medicine program and the department's strength and conditioning program. "We appreciate Stephanie's contributions and service to our athletics program," said OU director of athletics Joe Castiglione. "She has been an enthusiastic advocate for coaches and student-athletes and has helped create some very special programs which will benefit many in the years to come. We understand this is a special opportunity for her to continue her career in a region and conference in which she has great ties. The University of Washington is getting a great person. She will certainly be missed here at Oklahoma." A 1993 graduate of the University of Arizona, where she was a four-year letterwinner on the Wildcat volleyball team, Rempe began her career in athletics at her alma mater while earning her master's degree in sports administration. She spent three years in the UA athletic department's Wildcat Club and coordinated the Arizona Alumni Letterwinner's Association. In 1998, Rempe began a five-year stint as associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at the University of Texas at El Paso. While with the Miner athletics program, she oversaw 13 sports, football internal operations, the department's lifeskills program, sports medicine and the strength and conditioning program. A native of Santa Barbara, Calif., Rempe is an avid runner who has twice competed in the Boston Marathon and completed an Ironman Triathlon. She is a member of the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Hall of Fame and the Santa Barbara High School Ye le Gang Hall of Fame. |
