SEATTLE - The University of Washington athletic department announced today it has added a downloadable Desktop Communicator application to its website that will enable instant awareness of information related to Husky Athletics for fans. The Desktop Communicator delivers athletics RSS news and related content, All-Access streaming video services notices, and special ticket and merchandise offers.

"We like to describe the Desktop Communicator as a Cliff Notes version of the team athletic website. It is a lot like having your own personal sports news ticker on your desktop that alerts you with any and all new Washington athletic news," said Alicia Nevins, Senior Vice President of Business Development for New Tier.

The Desktop Communicator gives fans a holistic view of the UW's athletics teams and keeps fans one click away from the website and the latest new information due to the alerting capabilities of the program. The software is free and is be available for download through the official Washington Athletics website. It is an efficient application with a small foot print, and is available for both Personal and Macintosh computers.

The Desktop Communicator was provided to Washington through a partnership agreement between New Tier and CBS College Sports Network, which is enabling more than 100 schools to launch similar versions of the program by late summer.
