Rountree Joins UW Athletics Compliance Staff
May 12, 2009 SEATTLE - The University of Washington athletic department has named Mark Rountree to the position of associate director of athletics for Compliance, senior associate director of athletics John Morris announced today. Rountree will oversee the day-to-day NCAA and Pac-10 Conference compliance program for the UW athletic department's 21 intercollegiate sports. He will provide interpretations of NCAA and Pac-10 rules to all department staff, student-athletes and representatives of athletic interests and has oversight of procedures dealing with all aspects of NCAA rules compliance, including recruiting, eligibility and financial aid. "Mark has an excellent background in NCAA compliance and I am thrilled that he is a member of our staff," said Morris, who oversees the compliance and academic units as well as supervises various sport operations. "He has a great deal of experience and is a strong advocate of maintaining a positive compliance culture within the entire department. He has experience in the Pac-10, which will certainly help him hit the ground running in terms of understanding conference policies and procedures." Rountree previously served the last 12 months as the director of compliance at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he also served as a secondary sport administrator for football. Prior to his time at Georgetown, he spent four years as associate athletic director for compliance at Oregon State University. He began his tenure in Corvallis as the department's director of compliance and was promoted to associate AD the last three years. A 1991 graduate of Louisiana Tech University, Rountree lettered four seasons for the Bulldog football team. Upon graduation, he spent three years as the department's director of athlete academic support before moving to Texas-Pan American as assistant athletic director for compliance and academic programs. He also spent three years as compliance coordinator and assistant to the athletic director at the University of Maryland and four years as assistant athletic director for compliance at Towson University before his stint at Oregon State. |
