Washington has played itself into the upper echelon of collegiate softball, and it has the home facility to showcase that talent.

Easily one of the finest facilities in the country, Husky Softball Stadium is home to the 2009 National Champions and the 1996 and 2000 Pac-10 Champions, and was the site of the 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2007 NCAA regional tournaments that Washington won to advance to the College World Series.

Part one of the two-phase, $4 million project was completed in the summer of 1993, making 1994 the first year of play on the new home field. The first official game at the stadium was April 8, 1994, against Willamette, in which UW pitcher Nancy Wagner threw a no-hitter. Washington competed in nearby Bellevue in its inaugural season, 1993.

Phase two, which began in November 1995, was completed last in the 1996 season, and 1997 was the first full season of play in the finished facility.

Husky Softball Stadium is located just east of Husky Stadium and shares in one of the most spectacular views in the country, looking out over Lake Washington and toward majestic Mt. Rainier. The facility was designed with concrete and masonry materials to incorporate the architectural features of nearby Husky Stadium, Nordstrom Tennis Center and Dempsy Indoor Facility. The firm of Loschky, Marquardt and Nesholm designed the facility, which won the NFCA Regional Field of the Year award in 1998 and 2001.

The stadium is equipped to seat 1,000 fans in the main stands, 200 theatre-style seats and 800 bench seats. Expanded seating for 1,500 is possible by adding bleachers around the perimeter of the field.

Spectators enter through the rear of the stadium to maximize seating close to the field and ensure fans the closest possible view of the action.

The stadium includes a full-service locker room, coaches' offices, boardroom, training room, two concession stands and permanent restrooms. Generous handicapped seating and an elevator are also available.

Two batting cages are located down the left field line, as are ample storage areas for maintenance equipment.

A covered press box is fully equipped to host all print, radio and television media personnel covering Husky Softball. In addition, a unique enclosed viewing area provides camera angles from behind home plate.

Following the team's 2009 National Championship run in which the No. 3 seed Huskies had to travel to Massachusetts for the NCAA Regionals and Atlanta for the NCAA Super Regionals, a handful of generous donors stepped up to fund a full set of lights to enable night games to be played at Husky Softball Stadium. This will allow the Huskies to host future NCAA Tournament games. The lights are scheduled to be completed in late 2009 and be ready for the 2010 season.
