Inglesby Named Madness Softball All-American

College Sports Madness has announced the top college softball players of the 2012 season.

Sophomore pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby was honored with third-team All-American. This is the first time Inglesby has been selected to the All-American list after being named to the Pac-12 All-Conference Team by College Sports Madness.

Timbers U-23s Host First U.S. Open Cup Tuesday

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers U-23s will make their first appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday when they play host to PSA Elite of the U.S. Adult Soccer Association (USASA) in a first-round matchup at JELD-WEN Field; kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.

Current Huskies Spencer Richey and Thomas Spragg have joined the Timbers U-23s for the start of the 2012 season. Richey made his starting debut in goal in the Timbers' first game of the year. The junior made a save to contribute to the team's first shutout in a 3-0 win over Fraser Valley.

Tickets are $7 and are available for purchase through the JELD-WEN Field box office or online through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com

The winner of the first-round match between the Timbers U-23s and PSA Elite will travel to face the Carolina RailHawks of the North American Soccer League (NASL) in the second round on Tuesday, May 22, at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.; kickoff is set for 4:07 p.m. PT.

Eight Pac-12 Softball Teams Make NCAA Tournament

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Eight Pac-12 teams earned NCAA Tournament bids, including the No. 1 overall seed California, as the NCAA committee announced the complete field on Sunday. The Pac-12 has eight teams in the postseason for the first time since 2007.

Washington earned the 16 overall seed and will host regionals for the third straight season against Harvard, Texas Tech, and Maryland at Husky Softball Stadium.

Along with Washington, Arizona State, Arizona, California, Oregon, and UCLA will host regionals. Oregon State and Stanford will be on the road. All regionals will be conducted May 18-20, except for the Eugene Regional, which will take place May 17-19.

30 conferences were awarded automatic qualification, and the remaining 34 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the bracket. The top 16 teams were seeded nationally and will play at campus sites this weekend. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in a double-elimination tournament.

Regional winners will advance to super regional competition for a best-of-three series that will be conducted May 24-27 at eight campus sites. The Women's College World Series, an eight-team, double-elimination tournament, will be conducted May 31-June 6 at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

With a storied traditional in softball, Pac-12 teams have won 23 NCAA championships in the sport, including the last six.

Madness 2012 Pac-12 Softball All-Conference Teams Announced

College Sports Madness has announced the Pac-12 Softball All-Conference Teams. 

From the Washington softball team, senior outfielder Kimi Pohlman, junior utility hitter Jerrin Faasua, and sophomore pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby have all been named Second-Team All-Pac-12. This is the fourth time Pohlman has been selected to an All-Pac-12 selection, the second for Inglesby, and the first for Faasua.

Zevenbergen Named The Everett Herald's Athlete of the Week

Washington junior Hillary Zevenbergen was honored with being named Athlete of the Week by The Everett Herald, announced Friday. Zevenbergen went one-on-one with Herald writer Scott M. Johnson, where she talks about scoring a goal against former Husky All-American Hope Solo and the Seattle Sounders Women in UW's spring season match-up against Solo's team last Friday.

Pair Of Huskies To Make Timbers U-23s Debut Friday

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers U-23s kick off their fourth Premier Development League campaign on Friday as they play host to Fraser Valley Mariners FC at JELD-WEN Field; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. 

Washington's own junior goalkeeper Spencer Richey and red-shirt freshman forward Thomas Spragg will make their debut in a Timbers U-23 uniform on Friday. The duo joined the PDL team earlier this year.  

Tickets for the Timbers U-23s' 2012 season opener will be available at the JELD-WEN Field box starting at 10 a.m. on Friday. Tickets are priced $5 for adults and $2 for kids 12 and under. 

The Timbers U-23s' season opener kicks off a stretch of three games in nine days to open the campaign. On Tuesday, May 15, the Timbers U-23s play host to PSA Elite of the U.S. Adult Soccer Association in the first round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday at JELD-WEN Field.

After finishing their spring schedule last weekend, current Huskies Spencer Richey and Thomas Spragg will join the Timbers U-23 squad. Both signed with the PDL team for the 2012 season earlier this year.

Tickets for the Timbers U-23s' U.S. Open Cup are $7 and go on sale to the public Tuesday at 10 a.m. through the JELD-WEN Field box office and Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.

Based in Irvine, Calif., PSA Elite won the USASA Region IV championship over the weekend, defeating Cal FC 2-0 to earn a berth into the U.S. Open Cup and clinch a spot in the USASA National Cup Final Four in July.

Villanova To Host 2013 Men's College Cup At PPL Park

Chester, Pa. - Villanova University and PPL Park will serve as the hosts for the 2013 NCAA College Cup, the NCAA announced today. The dates for the 2013 Division I men's soccer championship are Friday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 15. This will mark the first time in the history of the men's soccer championship that Philadelphia will host the event. 

"We are thrilled to have been selected by the NCAA as the host institution for the 2013 College Cup," stated Villanova Director of Athletics Vince Nicastro. "PPL Park is the finest soccer facility of its kind in the nation and together we have forged a partnership with the leadership of the Philadelphia Union and the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau that will allow us to create a first class experience for the fans attending this outstanding event. This is an exciting opportunity for all of us in the Philadelphia region and we look forward to serving as host." 

The College Cup is the culmination of the 48-team NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament that begins on the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. 

"We are proud and excited to be able to host yet another great NCAA event at PPL Park," said Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz. "We believe, as does the NCAA, that PPL Park and its strong geographic location in the Greater Philadelphia region is the perfect spot to host college soccer's pinnacle event. It is only fitting that this event be played in one of the best soccer stadiums in America, PPL Park."

PPL Park opened in 2010 and serves as the home for Philadelphia Union. It has also served as a home site for a Villanova men's soccer game in 2010 as well as a women's soccer and football game in 2011. The seating capacity for soccer is 18,500. The venue features 29 luxury suits and a view of the Delaware River.

Richey, Spragg To Play U.S. Open Cup Match For Timbers U-23s

The Timbers U-23s and a club from the U.S. Adult Soccer Association, which will be announced at a later date, will play on Tuesday, May 15 at JELD-WEN Field at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the match are $7 and go on sale to the public Tuesday, May 8, at 10 a.m. through the JELD-WEN Field box office and Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com
