Chester, Pa. - Villanova University and PPL Park will serve as the hosts for the 2013 NCAA College Cup, the NCAA announced today. The dates for the 2013 Division I men's soccer championship are Friday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 15. This will mark the first time in the history of the men's soccer championship that Philadelphia will host the event.
"We are thrilled to have been selected by the NCAA as the host institution for the 2013 College Cup," stated Villanova Director of Athletics Vince Nicastro. "PPL Park is the finest soccer facility of its kind in the nation and together we have forged a partnership with the leadership of the Philadelphia Union and the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau that will allow us to create a first class experience for the fans attending this outstanding event. This is an exciting opportunity for all of us in the Philadelphia region and we look forward to serving as host."
The College Cup is the culmination of the 48-team NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament that begins on the weekend prior to Thanksgiving.
"We are proud and excited to be able to host yet another great NCAA event at PPL Park," said Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz. "We believe, as does the NCAA, that PPL Park and its strong geographic location in the Greater Philadelphia region is the perfect spot to host college soccer's pinnacle event. It is only fitting that this event be played in one of the best soccer stadiums in America, PPL Park."
PPL Park opened in 2010 and serves as the home for Philadelphia Union. It has also served as a home site for a Villanova men's soccer game in 2010 as well as a women's soccer and football game in 2011. The seating capacity for soccer is 18,500. The venue features 29 luxury suits and a view of the Delaware River.
