ProDawg Roundup: NFL

The first official weekend of the NFL has come and gone, and we wanted to take a look at how the Huskies fared in the opening round of preseason games.

We'll start in Tennessee, where Jake Locker opened some eyes with a compelling performance against the Minnesota Vikings. And accuracy was clearly no concern on his first NFL touchdown pass, a 45-yard bomb that came on a somewhat busted play. Locker finished 7-of-10 for 89 yards, posting a QB rating of 130.8. Of course, this created a few rumblings about whether the Titans have a QB controversy on their hands.

You can see Jake discuss his performance on the Tennessee Titans website.

Going around the league, here is how a few other Huskies performed.

  • Daniel Te'o-Ne'sheim: The Eagles defensive line gave the Ravens fits Thursday, and the former Husky was a factor in the chaos. Te'o-Ne'sheim collected two tackles, including a sack, in the Philadelphia's victory. Attacking the QB has been a training-camp emphasis under new coach Jim Washburn, and there are several reports that Te'o-Ne'sheim has thrived in the new system.
  • Donald Butler: The former Huskies linebacker has done well in coming break from an Achilles injury, so well that he earned a starting nod in the Chargers' opening game against the Seahawks. Butler had four tackles against Seattle. Credit Butler for his positive attitude despite the serious injury, something that wasn't lost on Coach Norv Turner
  • Mason Foster: Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris wanted to wait until he saw the tape before making a detailed assessment of Foster. But he liked what he saw from the sidelines. Foster started at middle linebacker in the Bucs' preseason win over the Chiefs, recording a key third-down stop and recovering a fumble. Tampa Bay has definitely taken notice
  • D'Andre Goodwin: Had one catch for 12 yards in the Broncos' 24-23 loss to the Cowboys.
  • Isaiah Stanback: The former UW quarterback is coming off an Lisfranc injury in his foot, which is tough to overcome for players who rely on speed. He received significant playing time in the Seahawks' first preseason game, catching two passes for 12 yards.
  • CJ Wallace: The ex-UW safety had seven tackles for the Chargers in Seattle's 24-17 win at Qualcomm.
  • Nate Williams: Had one tackle for Baltimore in the Ravens' loss to the Eagles.
  • Louis Rankin: Had five carries for two yards in Oakland's loss to Arizona. The former UW tailback also caught two passes for 19 yards.
  • Marcel Reese: Was one of 16 Raiders to catch a pass in the game against the Cardinals. Recorded one reception for six yards.
