Spring Practice No. 8 Update

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The Washington football team has officially moved past the halfway point of spring practice as the Huskies eighth of 15 sessions took place Thursday afternoon.

It was a spectacular afternoon in terms of the weather with bright sunshine and warm temperatures bathing Husky Stadium for the 4:00 p.m. workout. The musical selections of the day focused on old-school hip hop and rap with tracks from Kris Kross to Master P to Young MC and Sir Mix-A-Lot.

Much of the early portion of practice was spent on special teams, with the punt unit taking center stage for much of that period. Later on, a good deal of emphasis was placed on third-down situations.

Several of the most notable plays of the day came on the defense as redshirt freshman safety Will Shamburger thrilled the crowd with one big hit to knock a ball loose, and then another a few moments later in combination with sophomore linebacker Jordan Wallace.

Freshman tailback Jesse Callier had what was probably the offensive highlight of the day with a quick cutback and a long run.

NOTES: The Huskies will return to the practice field on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. practice at Husky Stadium ... it was announced today that the Spring Game will air on both UWTV and FSN ... for more information, check out the official release ... Thursday's practice was held in half-pads ... not an unusual site, but two former Dawgs from last year's team -- fullback Paul Homer and defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim -- watched Thursday ... reporters from both SI.com and the New York Times were in attendance as well, so keep an eye out for stories on the Huskies from both of those two sources in the coming days.
