Spring Practice No. 12 Report

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The Husky football team wrapped up its lengthiest scrimmage of the spring season Saturday. It was a windy, though largely sunny, day at Husky Stadium as the Dawgs ran approximately 90 plays in front of well over 1,000 fans.

The scrimmage had a few highlight plays in the early going. On a drive led by RS-freshman quarterback Keith Price, receiver Cody Bruns caught a 31-yard pass. Shortly after, freshman tailback Deontae Cooper ran in a 30-yard score.

Moments later, playing with the No. 1 offense, Cooper ran in untouched from 52 yards out, probably the play of the day for the offense.

Kicker Erik Folk brought applause from the stadium crowd with a 45-yard field goal, and a little later, Jake Locker connected with Jermaine Kearse on a 28-yard touchdown pass.

One of the last drives of the day featured a nice connection between Price and young receiver Luther Leonard, who hooked up on a few consecutive plays.

Afterwards, Coach Steve Sarkisian remarked that it was good to see the team run through a full scrimmage, rather than the usual situational work they get in a regular-style practice. He also noted that the windy conditions were good for his two young QBs, Price and Nick Montana, as it was an added challenge.

NOTES: As always, there were a number of former players in attendance ... among them: Spencer Marona, Mark Stewart, Tom Flick, Mike Rohrbach, Leif Johnson, Casey Bulyca, Hugh Millen and Mark Bruener ... Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, who was selected by the Eagles in the third round of the NFL Draft yesterday, spent the day hanging out with his former defensive linemates ... he'll head east for a mini-camp soon ... only three practices left on the schedule: Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00 p.m., then the Friday Night Lights Spring Game Friday at 6:30 p.m. ... for more information, including photos, video and much more, check out Friday Night Lights Spring Game Central here at gohuskies.com.
