Professional Football & Former Dawgs
A recent post on Bob Condotta's blog at the Seattle Times prompts the following information, specifically a rundown of former Husky football players currently playing either in the Arena Football League, or for that matter, the Indoor Football League.
The Arena League season just got underway this past weekend. Three former Huskies currently populate rosters. Johnie Kirton, former running back, tight end and defensive lineman at the UW, is a running back for the Arizona Rattlers. Caesar Rayford plays offensive and defensive line for the Utah Blaze. Finally, Chris Hemphill is listed as a wide receiver/linebacker for the Orlando Predators. In the Indoor Football League, where they're around the mid-season point, there are two former Huskies listed on rosters. First is defensive lineman Manase Hopoi, who's playing for the Kent Predators just down the road from the UW at the Showare Center (also home to Seattle Thunderbirds hockey). Wideout Charles Hawkins is playing in his hometown, Chicago. And finally, while this time of year isn't conducive to accurate/up-to-date NFL rosters (with free agency underway and the draft not yet having happened, etc.), here's a handy link to a list of former Huskies on NFL rosters, courtesy of cbssports.com.
