Football practice highlights big day at the UW!

Photos 4.3 085.jpgThe Husky football team moved indoors today for the third of its 15 spring football practices due to the inconsistent weather moving through the Seattle area.  Lately, the area has been besieged by high winds and off-and-on rain showers.  So, to ensure an efficient working environment, Coach Sarkisian decided fairly early in the day to move into the Dempsey Indoor.

At the same time, the #1 ranked UW softball team was completing back-to-back wins over No. 5 UCLA (3-1 & 7-2) and the baseball team was playing rival Washington State in the first game of a doubleheader.

Several hundred fans ringed the track around the football field to watch the Huskies go through a just more than two hours practice session.  The team wore helmets, shorts and shoulder pads and conducted individual and team drills.  It appeared the practice was conducted a pretty high pace, which isn't unusual but a few media observers noted the quick pace during and between drills.

Coach Sark, as well as several players and assistant coaches, conducted media interviews afterward.  You can read a great story about the UW defense on GoHuskies.com.  You can also watch Coach Sark's post-practice press session through the site's spring practice central page.  Also, check out this photo gallery of practice pics.

SCATTERSHOOTING:  The Huskies welcomed a visitor to practice today.  Current Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart, who played for Coach Sark at USC, attended practice while in town visiting friends ...  Jordan Polk seemed to tighten-up during practice.  Trainers were helping stretch his legs throughout the practice and he left with about a half-hour left.  Afterward, Coach Sarksaid he didn't think it would be a long-term problem ... Washington welcomed two new walk-on players to the squad today.  Din Kuses, a 6-1, 188-pound receiver from Edmonds (Edmonds-Woodway) wore practice jersey number 81.  Peter Follmer, a 6-5, 236-pound defensive lineman from Kent (Kentridge) work practice jersey number 87.  Follmer is a member of the UW track team as a thrower ... Donald Butler, Walt Winter, Johnny DuRocher & Hugh Millen are a few of the former players seen checking out practice ... Several of the UW's receivers made big plays today, making the media observers wonder if there was a challenge issued to that unit before practice.  Jermaine Kearse and Devin Aguilar had a few of the more spectacular moments.
