UW Student-Athletes Return To Campus!

With Washington's first day of classes taking place tomorrow, Husky student-athletes have officially returned to campus for the start of the fall quarter. The freshmen took part in a series of orientation sessions designed to acclimate them to college life.

At noon, after a thrilling 40-minute NCAA rules education session, UW athletes, staff and coaches assembled in Bank of America Arena for a BBQ lunch and program.

Led by WSAAC (Washington Student-Athlete Advisory Council) president Jake Schmitt, the program consisted of speeches by athletic director Scott Woodward and coaches Lesle Gallimore, Jim McLaughlin, Greg Metcalf, Richard Reece and Steve Sarkisian.

Afterwards, the athletes were treated to a special volleyball match pitting members of WSAAC against various sport coaches - including Heather Tarr and Lorenzo Romar. To the surprise of most in attendance, the coaches jumped out to an 18-11 lead and eventually won the match 21-18. The biggest cheer of the match occurred when Romar stuffed one of the WSAAC kill attempts for a point for the coaches!
