Lee and Taylor Set For U.S. Men's Amateur
Stroke play begins on Monday for the 2009 USGA U.S. Amateur. Huskies Nick Taylor, the World's No. 1 ranked amateur, and Richard Lee are both in this year championship being held at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
Two courses will be used for the first two rounds of stroke play -- the Southern Hills Country Club course and Cedar Ridge Country Club course -- with each participant playing 18 holes at both courses over two days. Each is a par 70 track with just one par 5 on each of the nines. Southern Hills will play at 7,093 yard, while Cedar Ridge is slightly longer at 7,336 yards.
Lee will tee off on Monday at 12:35 pm PT at Cedar Ridge, while Taylor will tee off at 11:15 am PT about seven miles northwest at Southern Hills.
After two rounds of play, the top 64 players will advance to match play at the Southern Hills course from Wednesday through Sunday.
Husky head coach Matt Thurmond will be on site following both Lee and Taylor. He will be checking in for GoHuskies.com and provide some insight on the action.
