UW Softball - Can You Dig It?

090602_UW_softball.jpgAfter the UW men's basketball team clinched the Pac-10 title at home against Washington State, Jon Brockman stepped to the top of the ladder under the west basket in Bank of America Arena, cut down the net and said - "Can You Dig It?"

Well, after the Husky softball team's performance over the last few weeks and last night's unforgettable NCAA softball championship game that same quote rings true today.

UW won its second national team championship of the year yesterday (women's cross country is the other) with a thrilling 3-2 win over top-seeded Florida at the Women's College World Series.

Greg Johns of SeattlePI.com has a nice rundown of the various Internet coverage of the game.  Jerry Brewer of the Seattle Times has a nice column on the gritty Huskies.  And, you can check out some of the ongoing coverage right here on GoHuskies.com.

The team finally returns home to Seattle today and will be recognized at Friday night's Seattle Mariners game!  It's been a long road, but the Huskies are bringing home the title!

Go Dawgs! That win last night was so awesome! Danielle, you are the toughest athlete I've ever seen. It is hard to find words for how cool you guys are!

My daughter, a jr in HS, my husband and I watched the Huskies beat every team they played the past week on ESPN, and cheered for Washington after watching Lawrie throw that first pitch and followed their games til the championship. Even though we live in Texas, my daughter says she has found a new hero, Danielle Lawrie!! All other teams went through 2 or 3 pitchers per game but NOBODY toughed it out and remained on top like Lawrie. The whole team did a great job and didn't lose sight when they were behind, playing as a team brought them back on top where they belong. We will follow Washington Softball since most of the team is young and will be returning next year. I will order a championship tshirt that my daughter has asked for and a cap for myself and will gladly wear here in Texas, along with our Longhorn ones. GREAT JOB HUSKIES!!
