Ben Fletcher
Position: Men's Assistant Coach
Ben Fletcher is in his third year as an assistant coach for the Washington men's rowing team. He joined coach Michael Callahan's staff in the winter of 2008. In his first season as a varsity assistant coach, Fletcher helped lead the Huskies to an overall team title at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship regatta. Fletcher coached the varsity four to an undefeated 2008 season, capturing the Pac-10 title and National Championship. In 2009, Fletcher helped lead the Huskies to an historic sweep of the eights events at the IRA regatta as well coaching the varsity four to a silver medal, and the open four to a National Championship. Fletcher attended the University of Washington and was a four year member of the rowing program, earning a varsity letter in 2003 and 2004. In 2003, Fletcher was a part of the National Champion varsity four. In 2004, Fletcher was a member of the undefeated junior varsity eight that captured victories at the San Diego Crew Classic, the California Duel, the Pac-10 Championship and the IRA regatta. Fletcher earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science in 2004. Fletcher also served as the Head Coach of the San Diego Rowing Club Juniors program in 2006-2007 before returning to the Seattle area. Fletcher is a native of Orinda, Calif., where he played basketball for Miramonte High School prior to walking on to the Washington team. In four years of basketball, Fletcher amassed an overall record of 94-16 and earned the Most Improved Athlete award three times during that span. In his spare time, Fletcher enjoys hiking. He recently completed a through hike of the Appalachian Trail in the summer of 2007, hiking the 2,174 mile trail in 165 days.
