WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — The Pac-12 Conference announced today the 2014 individual award winners as well as the all-conference squads for both men’s and women’s rowing. The Huskies had four selections to the men’s all-Pac-12 team and three to the women’s. Head men’s coach Michael Callahan earned his fifth-straight Men’s Coach of the Year honor.

Callahan continues his top coaching honors streak as the Huskies were crowned Pac-12 Champions for the fifth-straight season. This year’s title marked the UW men’s 37th  Conference title. In his seventh year at the head of the men’s program, he led the team to victories in three of the men’s races at Pac-12 Championships two weekends ago. The team is now going for their fourth-straight national title at the IRA Championships at Lake Mercer, N.J., which begin tomorrow with final races this Sunday.

After there stellar performance at Pac-12s, UW also earned four all-Pac-12 selections including senior captain Sam Dommer, Marcus Bowyer, Henry Meek and Finn Schroeder. All four athletes were in the no. 1-ranked V8+ boat at the conference championships and have been undefeated so far this season in collegiate competition. Their only loss came in a tight finish to the British National Team at this year’s Windermere Cup.

With their silver medal finish in the V8+ and second-overall team finish by the Washington Women, the girls earned three spots on the all-conference team. Senior and Captain Kirstyn Goodger and fellow seniors Patricia Obee and Ruth Whyman were all honored today when the conference announced the accolades.

The women will now take their momentum to the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, which also begin tomorrow morning and conclude on Sunday.
