SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Washington Gymnastics team fell to the fifth-ranked Utah Utes Friday evening with a final score of 193.475 to 197.125. After starting on bars with some trouble, the Huskies battled back to attack the remaining three events.

Washington once again had three all-arounders, but they were not the ones you would expect. The two mainstays, senior Aliza Vaccher and sophomore Allison Northey, were joined this week by junior Jackie McCartin after freshman Janae Janik had a minor foot injury during vault warm-ups.

This was McCartin's first career all-around meet and she took home the second place finish after almost breaking the 39.000-mark with a 38.950.

The GymDawgs started the night on bars and battled through some early lineup troubles, still saw two scores above 9.800. Freshman Janae Janik scored a 9.825 and McCartin once again hit an excellent routine for a 9.850. The team total for the rotation was the lowest on bars this season, a 47.900.

Going back to the normal duel meet rotation order, UW went to vault next where they showed off a smooth lineup with the kinks for last weekend worked out. Sophomore Allison Northey scored a 9.800 and Alexandra Yacalis hit an amazing vault for a 9.825.

Floor was not spotless, but featured some amazing routines from Vaccher who got a 9.850 and Podlucky who got a 9.800. The team also counted two 9.700s from Northey and McCartin.

As usual the Huskies took their beam rotation as a chance to shine with a 9.875 from McCartin, and 9.850s from Vaccher and Northey. Junior McKenzie Fechter also hit her routine for a 9.775.

Northey's 9.850 tied her career high and Vaccher's her season high.

The GymDawgs will end their road stretch next weekend with another trip to Utah, this time to Provo to take on Brigham Young at 6:00 p.m. PT.
