SEATTLE – The 23rd-ranked Washington Gymnastics team begins a three-week road stint this Saturday when they head to Berkeley to take on No. 21 California and Sacramento State for a Pretty in Pink meet supporting breast cancer awareness. The three teams will face off in Haas Pavilion on Sat., Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. PT. Live scoring will be available here and the most up to date information from the team can be found by following the team on Twitter (@UWGymnastics).

“Even though it is kind of a short turn-around from Sunday, our girls are looking forward to getting on the road and doing what we do. While it is nice to be able to sleep in your own bed and compete in your gym, there is always something fun about being on the road with your whole team in one place spending time together,” head coach Joanne Bowers said. “I think they are all just really excited to get out there and do what they do best – compete.”

The GymDawgs are coming off of a tight loss to No. 9 UCLA at home on Sunday that saw the team post their second-highest total of the season, a 195.650. The team, continuing on the up-swing of their season, had team best event totals on both vault (48.925) and the uneven bars (49.125).

A large part of the success in the bar rotation was thanks to junior Jackie McCartin who set a career record when she scored the highest individual score on the team this season, a 9.925.

“We really focused on the details this week in practice,” Bowers further. “Our goal is to keep getting better, and I really feel like that is exactly where we are headed. We have three really good chances to improve our away meet scores over these few weeks and it is coming at a perfect time for our team.”

This kinds of performance from the UW specialists is exactly what the team is looking for to push them to the next level.

The Cal Golden Bears are coming off of a stellar weekend where they set a season high total score of 196.725 against the Sacramento State Hornets and San Jose State. This score was the second highest score in program history and the highest away score the Bears have ever recorded.  The host, Sacramento State same in third at the meet with a final total of 194.900.
