SAN DIEGO -- The honors continue to roll in for Washington signee Kelsey Plum as she was named Ms. Basketball in the state of California for 2013. The 5-9 La Jolla Country Day guard led her team to the San Diego Section IV title, while averaging over 27 points per game.
Plum became the second player in La Jolla Country Day history to earn the prestigious Ms. Basketball honor, joining current WNBA star and former Stanford All-American Candace Wiggins.
The Washington commit earns this honor after recently playing in a pair of All-America games. On April 3, Plum became the second McDonald's All-American in UW history, joining Katie Collier. Plum finished the game with seven points in 14 minutes, helping the West to a 92-64 blowout victory.
Three days later, Plum traveled to New Orleans to compete in the WBCA All-America game that was played in conjunction with the Women's Final Four. Plum starred in this game, scoring 14 points on 6-8 shooting. She helped the Black Team to a 74-70 victory.
Plum finished her senior season with averages of 27.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 3.3 assists per game. She scored 2,215 points for her high school career and led her high school team to a 103-22 record.
California's Ms. Basketball will be joined by Chantel Oshahor and Brianna Ruiz as incoming freshman at UW. The freshmen class will also be bolstered by Collier who is returning from a knee injury that cost her the 2012-13 season.
