SEATTLE -- The University of Washington learned is proud host the First and Second Rounds of this year's NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. Monday, the selections of the tournament bracket were announced with South Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Oregon State and Cal-State Northridge selected to come to Alaska Airlines Arena.
The first game will be Sunday, March 23 at 2:30 p.m., featuring the top seed in the Stanford region, South Carolina. The Gamecocks will take on 16th-seeded Cal-State Northridge for a game that can be seen live on ESPN. The second game scheduled for 5:00 p.m. will be eighth-seeded Middle Tennessee taking on ninth-seeded Oregon State. That game can be seen on ESPN2.
The winners of each first round contest will play Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for another ESPN game.
Washington last hosted the First and Second Rounds in 2010 when Texas A&M, Gonzaga, North Carolina and Portland State came to Seattle. The Aggies and 'Zags advanced to the second round, while Gonzaga advanced to the Sweet 16. That Gonzaga team was eventually eliminated by Xavier with current Husky head coachon the staff of the Musketeers.
The team gets out of Seattle this season with two wins will advance to the regional played in Stanford, Calif., on March 30 and April 1. The NCAA Women's Final Four is set for Nashville, Tenn., on April 6 and 8.
Washington was not selected to the NCAA Tournament after finishing 17-13. They received an automatic bid the WNIT after finishing as the top team in the Pac-12 to not earn an NCAA berth. UW and will learn their first round opponent for the WNIT late Monday night.
