WALNUT CREEK -- Washington guard Kelsey Plum was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference commisioner's office. It is the seventh such award for Plum, setting the Pac-12 record.
Plum scored 64 points in two games over the weekend against Oregon and Oregon State as the Huskies (16-11, 9-7 Pac-12) split the contests.
Friday against Oregon, Plum set a Washington freshman scoring record with 38 points, while also surpassing the single-season freshman scoring record of Jazmine Davis. Plum finished 11-22 from the field, including 6-12 from 3-point range and 10-11 from the fould line. She added six rebounds, five assists and no turnovers for perhaps her most complete game of the season, propelling the Dawgs to a 108-100 win over the Ducks.
Sunday, Plum scored 26 points and added eight rebounds as the Huskies fell to Oreogn State. Still, she averaged 32 points and seven rebounds for the week and now has 562 points on the season.
Plum and the Huskies travel to the Bay Area this weekend to face No. 5 Stanford and No. 18 California. The Cardinal, who have already clinched the Pac-12 title, will be looking for some revenge after fallin in Seattle earlier this month for their only conference loss of the season. Stanford is led by Chiney Ogwumike who earned her eighth Pac-12 Player of the Week honor that was also announced today. UW and Stanford will face-off on Thursday at 8 p.m., live on the Pac-12 Networks. Saturday, the Dawgs will face Cal at 5:30 p.m., also on the Pac-12 Networks.
