Washington Assistant AD for Events and Facilities Dan Gaston continues his updates for GoHuskies.com on the weekly progress made at Husky Ballpark.

More and more we are getting closer to being done in certain areas. One such area is the player development building where the turf is in, the mound is in and the nets are going up. There is still some equipment that needs to be delivered and some graphics need to go on the walls, but it should be next week sometime when we are ready to move in and get going; probably middle of the week.

The video board is up and running and we are now testing it out. Designers in the athletic department are trying to get the look and feel down and are testing different designs. It is going to be a new toy for us to play with and will enhance the game day experience greatly.

You have the brick façade and the roof above and then there are gaps; the windows should be going in on the concourse level. The windows will allow fans on the concourse to see through the back of the building, yet it will be completely protected from the weather.

There is still a lot of progress being made on all levels of the concourse. On the ground level, garage doors are going in for the team shop. The TV’s are installed and the cables are almost finished to. In the restrooms, the plumbing is almost completely finished are ready for use.

On the top level of the press box and suite, windows are completely installed. Workers are finishing the flooring and should be installing the countertops next week.

Perhaps the most noticeable change on the exterior of the ballpark is that the fence is almost installed. Just outside of the perimeter of the fence, workers will pour concrete Friday and Saturday to finish off the plaza.

Also on the exterior, vegetation has been delivered. All that needs to be done is the planting of the shrubs and trees.

The weather here hasn’t been great but it hasn’t actually slowed down construction. The weather on the east coast actually affected lot of things. A lot of things were shipped from the east coast and were getting stuck due to weather, for example the elevator. The rain and the cold weather affect some here, but there has been a process to doing everything, and there haven’t been many gaps in that process.

Next week, the big graphics pieces will come in. All the things that light up will be installed next week.

All in all, we are getting close to the opening and could not be more excited about the rapidly-approaching opener on Friday, March 21 vs. Arizona.
