TACOMA, Wash.  – Washington beat UC Davis, 8-3, in Saturday’s seven-inning, second game of a double header to earn a sweep over the visiting Aggies at Tacoma’s Cheney Stadium. The Huskies won 2-1 in the first game.

The Huskies have won the first three games of the four-game series to improve to 6-4-1 on the season. UC Davis fell to 4-7.

For the first time in the series, Washington scored first. Brian Wolfe led off with a walk off starter Evan Wolf (0-1) in the second inning and scored standing up when the next batter Ryan Wiggins crushed a triple to center field. Wiggins scored one batter later on a RBI single by Austin Rei to give the Huskies the 2-0 lead.

The Huskies added two more runs in the fourth inning to make it 4-0. Wolfe led off with a double and Wiggins followed with a walk. Two outs later and with the runners at second and third, Erik Forgione delivered hit a two-out single into the left-center gap that scored both runners.

Husky starter Tyler Davis was cruising along through four innings before UC Davis finally got to the right hander in the fifth inning and chased him from the game. After he got the first out of the inning, the Aggies had back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Davis got the next batter to strike out, but gave up a run-scoring single to Adam Young, which ended Davis’ day.

Davis (2-1) went 4 and 2/3 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter to earn the win.

It was Davis’ first win as a starter since May 24, 2012. Davis won his first two career starts as a freshman, but had not won in his next 18 until tonight's game.

Washington would answer back in the bottom of the fifth inning and increase its lead to 7-1. Branden Berry and Austin Rei had the big hits in the inning, each collecting RBI doubles.

UC Davis would get one back in the top of the sixth on a solo home by Steven Patterson, but Washington once again responded in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own. Andrew Ely drove in Braden Bishop with a RBI single to make it 8-2.

The Aggies scored an unearned run in the ninth off of Trevor Dunlap to make the final score 8-3.

Forgione and Rei each collected two hits to pace the Huskies, who recorded nine all together.

Washington and UC Davis conclude the series on Sunday at Cheney Stadium with a 1:00 p.m. contest.
