Husky Ballpark Construction Report - February 21
Release: 02/24/2014

With the opening of Husky Ballpark on Friday, March 21 just a month away, week-by-week it is easy to see the incredible progress being made by workers at the baseball team’s new digs.  There is clearly a lot of work that still needs to be done around the park but things are coming together nicely along the shores of Lake Washington.

Along the first base line, seats are almost completely installed since last week. Metal bleachers with backs for general admission seating and three sections of reserved seating sections appear to be ready for use and even a section of purple seats have been completed. More bases for seats with chair backs have been drilled into place are just waiting for backs and seating to be put into place. Large cardboard boxes with chair backs and seats are stacked along the third base stands and are waiting to be opened and assembled.

On Wednesday, a day before the Husky Baseball team left for a four-game road trip to Arizona, the team practiced on the turf with workers busily wrapping up last-minute projects in the background. For the 2-1-1 Huskies, it’s business as usual as they run through drills on the field. Speaking of the field, it is nearly ready for game action, as logos have been sewed into place.

One of the more noticeable changes is that the scoreboard that has stood behind the left field wall is now gone. All that remains are the steel stanchions that held up the scoreboard. Installation of the new scoreboard will start next week.

The performance center down the first base line also has a new look since last week. Workers leveled the ground inside the practice facility and have started to install the field turf. It is nearly complete and almost ready for the Huskies to begin using for training.

On the exterior, the entrance that fans will use to get into the ballpark is starting to take shape. Three brick rectangle chimney-like pillars have been constructed next to where the ticket box office is taking shape. All that’s missing are the ticket takers and ushers.
