WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – In its weekly volleyball awards, the Pac-12 conference today honored Husky senior Jenna Orlandini as the Defensive Player of the Week. Washington’s back row stalwart racked up dig after dig last week, helping the Huskies to a sweep of Seattle U. and then back-to-back exhibition victories over the Canadian National Team.

This is the second time Orlandini (La Cañada, Calif.) has been named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, the previous time coming during her sophomore season. This is the third season that the conference has had separate weekly awards for offensive, defensive, and freshman of the week.

Orlandini averaged 5.36 digs per set in the three victories last week. She started with 10 digs against Seattle, helping the Huskies to a straight-set win in which the Redhawks were held to a .099 attack percentage. In the exhibition matches against the Canadian National Team, Orlandini notched 28 digs in Friday’s match and had 21 more on Saturday as UW held a team featuring several former NCAA All-Americans to a .237 attack mark in the first match and .166 in match two, winning both in four sets. She also had five aces in the exhibition wins. The 28 digs on Friday were one short of her regular season career-high.

A four-year starter, Orlandini currently ranks third in UW school history with 1,533 digs.

The sixth-ranked Huskies (4-0) will face their first ranked opponent next time they take the court, as they travel to face 14th-ranked Illinois this Friday in Urbana-Champaign.
