SEATTLE – The University of Washington women’s tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to 12th ranked Southern California Sunday afternoon out at the Bill Quillian Tennis Courts. The Dawgs, currently ranked No. 42, move to 10-8 on the season and 0-6 in Pac-12 play. UW next faces Washington State on Friday, April 4 in Pullman.

“Our girls have fought hard against some really talented teams the last couple of weeks,” said head coach Jill Hultquist. “We knew once Pac-12 play started that it was going to be a really tough battle especially with how our schedule was laid out. But even with the setbacks and injuries that we have had I thought they still came out and fought hard today. I would have really liked to have seen Elianne, Natali and Riko’s matches finish because they were playing really well against their opponents, but I’m proud of how they fought.”

The Huskies fell behind 1-0 after the doubles point went to USC with wins on courts one and three. Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu lost a tightly contested match against Kaitlyn Christian and Brynn Boren, 8-5, while Natali Coronel and Julija Lukac fell 8-4 to Zoe Scandalis and Gabriella DeSimone. Court two’s Grace Ysidora and Natali Coronel were also in a battle on court two with the score tied at 7 before the Trojans clinched the point.

In singles action, USC picked up wins on courts four, two and three to take the match. The Huskies had three matches suspended following the fourth point for the Trojans. No. 97 Elianne Douglas-Miron was facing No. 25 Scandalis and was down 6-4, 3-1 while Natali Coronel won her first set against Christian on court five, 7-6, and was behind 1-2 when the match was stopped. On court six, Shimizu fell behind 2-6 in the first set but had bounced back and was up 5-3 in the second before play was suspended.

The Huskies have next weekend off before heading to Pullman on April 4 to face the Cougars at 11 a.m.

“I think this break is coming at a good time for our team,” added Hultquist. “We need to rest, recover and get prepared to finish the season strong. “
