PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Washington women's tennis opened the season at the ITA All-American Championships at Riviera. The Dawgs lost both matches against some top competition, but still have high hopes for the 2013-14 season.

In singles, Andjela Nemcevic fell to Klaudia Gwalick of McNeese State, 6-1, 6-3. Nemcevic is the lone senior on the Husky roster and will be counted on this season. She gained experience playing at No. 1 for much of last year and could be slated for that spot again this year.

In doubles, Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu took on one of the top teams in Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady of UCLA. The Bruin duo won the mathc, 6-1, 6-3, but the Huskies battled well. The Dawgs were much improved in doubles last season with the team of Douglas-Miron and Shimizu being a big reason for that.

Next up, Washington travels to the St. Mary's Invitational in Moraga from Oct. 12-14. It will be the first opportunity for the full squad to see action this season.
