Huskies Open Pac-12 Play with No. 5 UCLA and No. 1 USC

SEATTLE – The University of Washington men’s tennis team continues its eight-match homestand as it starts the Pac-12 season hosting No. 5 UCLA (March 28, 1:30 p.m.) and No. 1 USC (March 29, 1 p.m.). The Dawgs will also host Eastern Washington on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Huskies are 8-7 on the season and are most recently coming off of a two-week break following a 7-0 win over Gonzaga on March 14. This weekend's matches against two top five teams mark the  eighth and ninth ranked opponents the Dawgs have faced so far this season. UW has a 6-2 record when playing at home this season. Emmett Egger holds a 4-2 mark this season while playing at the number three spot while Max Manthou is 4-5 on court one but holds an overall dual record of 7-5. Gal Hakak is 8-7 on the season playing at the number one, two and three spots. 

ABOUT THE BRUINS: The Bruins are currently ranked No. 5 in the nation and hold a 13-2 record on the season. UCLA will also be making it's Pac-12 debut this weekend when it heads to Seattle. Top-ranked Clay Thompson leads the Bruins in singles action and is joined by Marcos Giron in the nation's top 10 as Giron comes in at number six. UCLA has three other singles players ranked in the top 100 nationally in Mackenzie McDonald (33), Gage Brymer (73) and Karue Sell (83). Additionally, the dueo of Giron and McDonald come in at number 21 nationally in doubles play. 

ABOUT THE TROJANS: USC is currently the top team in the nation after jumping from number four to number one in the latest ITA rankings (March 25). The Trojans have won nine-straight and hold an overall record of 18-2 on the season. They will open Pac-12 play at Oregon on Friday, March 28 before coming to Seattle on the 29th. USC's Ray Sarmiento is currently the No. 3 in the country and is joined by Yannick Hanfmann (12), Jonny Wang (44), Roberto Quiroz (56) and Max de Vroome in the nation's top 100. Additionally, the USC duo of Sarmiento and Hanfmann is ranked fifth nationally in doubles action.
