SEATTLE –The University of Washington men’s tennis team continues a strong non-conference slate as it takes on two ranked opponents this weekend on the road. First up is No. 43 Oregon, in a non-conference match, on Friday, Feb 28 at 5 p.m. followed by a match at No. 15 Boise State on Saturday, March 1.
The Huskies are 6-4 on the season and most recently swept Seattle U in a double header taking both of the matches with 6-0 wins. The Dawgs have played just a handful of times this month and will be heading out of state for the matches for the first time since a 4-2 loss to No. 30 Tulsa on Feb. 1. UW is on an 18-match win-streak against the Ducks with Oregon’s last win coming in 2004 on Feb. 29.
Scouting Oregon: The Ducks are 9-1 on the season including a win over NO. 50 San Diego State in January. They’re led by #68 Robin Cambier and Kevin Farin who are a combined 16-4 over the last 10 matches. The Ducks are in the middle of a four-match homestand when the Huskies come to town and have Two of the last three meetings have come down to 4-3 decisions between these two squads as the Huskies have owned the series dating back 10 years to 2004 when the Ducks last picked up a win over UW.
SCOUTING BOISE STATE: The 15th ranked Boise State Broncos are currently 9-2 on the season and have won eight straight. Freshman Brendan McClain is the reigning Mountain West Player of the Week after going 3-0 in singles play last week without dropping a set. The team jumped 26 spots in the latest rankings after defeating three opponents that were ranked higher than the Broncos. They’ve been on the road for five straight weeks and have wins over No. 21 Clemson (W 4-3), No. 29 VCU (W 4-2), No. 37 Alabama (W 4-0), No. 51 Utah (W 5-2) and No. 65 Drake (W 4-1) all on the road.
The Huskies finally return home following the weekend in Eugene to start a seven-match home-stand beginning with No. 47 Minnesota on Friday, March 7 at 5 p.m.
