Egger and Hawke easily move on to quarterfinals while Manthou rallied from a first-set loss for the win.
MORAGA, Calif. – University of Washington Men’s Tennis senior Max Manthou continued his stellar play at the ITA Northwest Regionals on Sunday as he outlasted nationally-ranked Nolan Paige of Stanford to advance to the single’s quarterfinals. Also moving on to the next round on was the duo of Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke in the doubles draw. The tournament, hosted by St. Mary’s, continues on Monday.
Manthou rallied from a 3-6 loss in the first set to outlast Paige (ranked 96th by the ITA) 6-1 and 6-4 over the final two sets. The senior will now face Santa Clara’s John Lamble, who is ranked 64th, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
In the doubles matches, the Huskies pair of Egger and Hawke easily advanced to the next round with their 8-2 victory over Fresno State’s John Darmnstaedter and Sam McNeil. They will now match up with Nolan Paige and Trey Strobel of Stanford at 9 a.m. on Monday.
