FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Corey Pereira continued his red-hot play, firing a second-straight 62 to take over the lead at the Pacific Coast Amateur. Pereira is now at 16-under and leads by five to pace the seven Dawgs in the tournament.

A day after thinking he had tied the course record, only to see Alex McMahon shoot 61 minutes later, Pereira finished one shot off the record yet again. This time the sophomore-to-be made five birdies, two eagles and just one bogey for the round of 8-under 62.

Pereira leads by five over Mark Aguiano and Lorens Chan as he tries to become the first Husky to win the Pacific Coast Amateur since Chris Williams back in 2011.

Also playing well for the Dawgs is Jonathan Sanders who is tied for 18th at 3-under. Sanders was under par for a second-straight day with a 1-under 69. Tyler Salsbury also shot 69 and is tied for 36th at 2-over.

Incoming freshman Jordan Lu and Frank Garber played well in the third round, including a 2-under 68 from Lu. He is tied for 43rd at 3-over, while Garber is tied for 46th at 4-over after shooting 72.

Returning UW players, Kevin Kwon and Chris Babcock also bounced back with their best round of the tournament on Thursday. Kwon shot a 3-under 67 to move up to a tie for 52nd at 6-over. Babcock had his first round under par with a 69 and is that same tie for 52nd.

All seven Huskies will be back on the course Friday morning for the final round of the Pacific Coast Amateur. Pereira tees off at 9:10 a.m. as he tries to hold onto his five stroke lead.
