HUTCHINSON, Kansas -- Washington head coach Matt Thurmond has been named one of five finalists for the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year presented by Eaton Golf Pride. Thurmond has led the Dawgs to runner-up finishes at both the Pac-12 Championships and the NCAA Raleigh Regional this season.
Thurmond joins Alan Bratton of Oklahoma State, Bruce Heppler of Georgia Tech, Conrad Ray of Stanford and Jay Seawell of Alabama as finalists.
Thurmond led the Dawgs to one win this season at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational, but the Dawgs have seven runner-up finishes this year. The Dawgs are currently ranked No. 8 in the country and have four individuals ranked inside the top-100. Each of Cheng-Tsung Pan, Corey Pereira, Jonathan Sanders and Trevor Simsby also earned All-Region honors.
The two-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year, Thurmond is looking to be named National Coach of the Year for the first time.
The Dawgs are underway at the NCAA Championships on Saturday after having their first round suspended by rain Friday.
