BANDON, Ore. -- No. 16 Washington sits in a tie for ninth after the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championship. The Dawgs finished the day at 9-over 293, 12 strokes off the lead set by Missouri.

The Dawgs were led by Jonathan Sanders who shot a round of even-par 71. The sophomore had his round at 2-under, before a double-bogey on 12. He finished with one more birdie and one more bogey to remain at level par. Sanders is in a tie for 11th, four strokes behind three players tied for lead.

Also playing well for the Huskies were Trevor Simsby and Gerrit Chambers. Simsby made four birdies to lead UW, but finished at 1-over 72 and in a tie for 15th. Chambers had a round of 2-over 73 and is tied for 27th after a round of one birdie and three bogeys.

The final scorer for Washington was Corey Pereira who struggled to a round of 6-over 77.

The Dawgs also have three individuals playing in the tournament, including Kevin Kwon who played well, tying for 15th with a round of 1-over 72. The other individuals were Tyler Salsbury and Shane Wathanasaynee who each fired a round of 4-over 75.

The Dawgs will be back on the course at Bandon Dunes on Monday for the second round. Last year, Washington also struggled in the first round, before mounting and charge to eventually finish third. The Dawgs will look to repeat that turnaround beginning tomorrow.
