BANDON, Ore. – No. 16 Washington heads down the coast to compete in the Bandon Dunes Championship beginning Sunday, March 9. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the Pacific Dunes course, recently ranked as the top course in America by Golfweek.

This is the fifth-annual Bandon Dunes Championship hosted by Gonzaga. Bandon Dunes has four courses with the tournament rotating each year between the courses. This marks the second time the tournament will be played on the Pacific Dunes course with the last time being 2010 when Notre Dame came away as the champion.

Washington does have a Bandon Dunes Championship to its credit, winning in 2011 when the tournament was played at the Bandon Dunes Course. That year Charlie Hughes won the individual title, tying the course record of 66 in the final round. Chris Williams also has an individual title, coming in 2012 on the Bandon Trails Course when the Dawgs tied for the team title, but lost the scorecard tiebreaker.

This year, Washington will be the highest ranked team in the field, joined by Boston College, Colorado, Gonzaga, Missouri, Oregon, Pacific, Rice, Saint Mary’s, San Jose State, UC Davis, Missouri-Kansas City, Utah Valley, Washington State and Weber State.

The Dawgs will feature a lineup of Gerrit Chambers, Trevor Simsby, Corey Pereira, Chris Babcock and Jonathan Sanders. Tyler Salsbury, Shane Wathanasaynee and Kevin Kwon also made the trip and will play as individuals. Noticeably absent is Cheng-Tsung Pan who is returning from Thailand after earning a spot in the British Open in a qualifying tournament.

Last year, the Huskies finished third at the Bandon Dunes Championship. The Dawgs had a brutal first round to finish 17th, but then rebounded to climb all the way to third over the next two rounds. Williams and Sanders had top-10 finishes for Washington last season.

Following this week, Washington will have a bit of a break for final exams. Their next tournament is the U.S. Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Course, beginning March 28.
