SEATTLE – The 12th-seeded Washington Huskies will open their 7th consecutive Super Regional appearance Saturday against a familiar foe.
The Huskies (36-13) will take on the 5th-seeded Florida Gators (48-11) beginning Saturday at 10:00 a.m. PT on ESPNU. The best two-out-of-three series continues Sunday with game two at 9:00 a.m. PT on ESPN and game three (if necessary) at 12:00 p.m. PT on ESPN.
Washington leads the all-time series vs. the Gators, 9-3, including two wins in the championship series of the 2009 Women’s College World Series to clinch the Huskies first national championship. The Huskies and Gators last met on Feb. 23, 2012, with the Huskies picking up a 5-2 victory.
The Huskies enter Saturday’s matchup vs. Florida as winners of six in a row and 12 of their last 13 games since Apr. 18. Seven of those 12 wins have been run-rule decisions.
Last weekend at Husky Softball Stadium, the Huskies advanced through the Regional round of play by shutting out Iona, BYU, and Northwestern by a combined tally of 26-0. 10th-year Head Coach Heather Tarr earned her 400th career victory as the Huskies clinched their 9th overall Super Regional appearance vs. Northwestern on May 17. (Note: this is the 10th year of the current Super Regional format.)
Senior pitchers Kaitlin Inglesby and Bryana Walker have combined to throw four consecutive complete-game shutouts. Between Inglesby and Walker, the Huskies have not allowed a run in 22 consecutive innings, dating back to their May 9 matchup with Cal.
