SEATTLE – The Huskies shutout the BYU Cougars, 9-0 in five innings Friday in NCAA Regional playoff action at Husky Softball Stadium to advance to the Regional Championship game.

The Huskies (35-13) will play for the opportunity to advance to the Super Regionals on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Husky Softball Stadium.

Bryana Walker shutout the Cougars (34-22) on just two hits over five innings to earn the win and improve to 19-8 on the season.

“Bryana threw well, and the defense played pretty good behind her,” head coach Heather Tarr said. “Offensively, we found some ways to score, drew some walks, and had some key hits at some key times, which is the most important thing at this point.”

Playing as the visiting team, the Huskies got four runs on the board in the top of the 1st, beginning with Victoria Hayward leading off with a single soon to be followed by an RBI-single from Kylee Lahners. Two batters later, Whitney Jones crushed a three-run home run to give the Huskies a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st.

The top of the 3rd began with Lahners driving a single to lead off the inning. After a walk to Jones, Dani Braun clubbed a two-run double, as the Huskies took a 6-0 lead.

The Huskies tacked on three runs in top of the 4th inning. After Ali Aguilar doubled home a run, Jones connected for her 2nd home run of the game. For Jones, it was her first career multi-home run game.

“I’m just staying in the moment, looking for the right pitch to hit, and putting a good swing on the pitch,” Jones said.

Jones finished the day 2-for-2, with three runs scored, two home runs, five RBI, and one walk at the plate and now has five home runs and 34 RBI on the season.

Over the final three innings, Walker allowed just two base runners and struck out four. In the two Regional games so far, Kaitlin Inglesby and Walker have combined to shutout their opponents on 3 hits over 11 innings with 10 strikeouts.

The Huskies will take on a to-be-determined opponent in the Regional Championship Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Husky Softball Stadium.
