FULLERTON, Calif. – With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 1st inning after three consecutive singles, Whitney Jones made sure her hit counted.

Jones connected for a grand slam home run and jumpstarted the No. 6 Huskies to a 7-1 win over No. 5 Michigan on Thursday at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.  It was the first career grand slam for Jones and just the third career home run for the senior from nearby Upland, Calif.

The Huskies win over No. 5 Michigan marked their fourth win this season over a team that was ranked in the top 25 at the time, joining victories over Baylor, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Bryana Walker tossed 7.0 innings while allowing just one run and striking out five, earning her eighth complete-game in 13 appearances this season. Walker got the win to move to 11-1 on the season.

Jones got the scoring started for the Huskies (17-2) in the first inning after consecutive singles by Kaitlin Inglesby, Kylee Lahners, and Ali Aguilar. But the Huskies didn’t stop there, as they went on to score runs in four of the first five innings against the Wolverines (14-5).

With two outs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Victoria Hayward cruised into 2nd base with a double. Hooch Fagaly followed promptly with an RBI-single to give the Huskies a 5-0 lead.

It was Fagaly who got the rally started in the 4th, clubbing a one-out double. Inglesby followed with an RBI-single to score pinch runner Rylleigh Zbaraschuk.

After the Wolverines scored a run in the top of the 5th to cut the Huskies lead to 6-1, the Huskies came right back with a run of their own. Fagaly drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Jones from 3rd base and giving the Huskies a comfortable 7-1 lead. Fagaly finished 2-for-3, with two RBI and one walk. Jones went 1-for-3, with two runs scored, one home run, four RBI, and one walk.

The Huskies continue the Judi Garman Classic with a matchup against Wisconsin (7-7) on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
