SEATTLE – The National Fastpitch Coaches Assocation (NFCA) announced last week that three Washington softball players have been honored as 2012-2013 All-American Scholar Athletes.
Senior pitcher Bryana Walker, junior infielder Kimberlee Souza, and senior utility player Mercedes Wetmore were honored for earning a 3.50 or higher grade point average during the 2012-2013 academic year.
“Our school is very academically challenging, on a national scale, so it’s a great accomplishment to achieve what Bryana, Kimberlee, and Mercedes did this year academically and athletically,” head coach Heather Tarr said. “The fact that the NFCA has honored them is great.”
Walker and Souza were also named to the Pac-12 academic first team in May, while eight teammates were either selected to the second team or honorable mention list.
Walker is majoring in psychology, and Souza is majoring in American ethnic studies.
