CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 11th-ranked Huskies defeated Oregon State, 10-2, in six innings Sunday in Corvallis, Ore., clinching a 2nd straight series sweep of the Beavers. The Huskies (28-12) also won all three games against the Beavers (13-29) on April 6 and 7 last year.
Kaitlin Inglesby made the start in the circle and went five innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out four. With the win, Inglesby improves to 11-4 on the year.
The Huskies put one on the board in the top of the 1st. Hayward drew a walk to lead off the inning, promptly stole 2nd base, and eventually came around to score on an Oregon State throwing error.
Five hits produced five runs for the Huskies in the top of the 2nd. Ali Aguilar led off the inning with a single, followed by a hit by pitch to Whitney Jones and back-to-back singles from Braun and Kelli Suguro. Three consecutive run-scoring at-bats from Hooch Fagaly, Hayward, and Inglesby gave the Huskies a 6-0 lead.
Inglesby helped her cause in the 4th with an-RBI single, scoring Marki Creger-Zier after a leadoff double. Hayward then came in to score on a wild pitch, giving the Huskies an 8-0 advantage heading to the bottom of the 4th.
The Huskies added two runs in the 6th inning, as Hayward and Fagaly led off the inning with a walk and single, respectively, and both came around to score.
Mercedes Wetmore pinch-hit for Braun in the top of the 6th, recording her first collegiate at-bat.
The game was delayed thirty minutes at the start due to rain, but the Huskies and Beavers played under mostly sunny skies for the entirety of the game.
The Huskies now return home to prepare for their final Pac-12 home series of the season. The Huskies will host Arizona in a three-game series, beginning Friday at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the Huskies will honor one of the greats in Washington Softball history. Danielle (Lawrie) Locke will become the first Huskies softball player to have her jersey retired in a pre-game ceremony before the Huskies 7:00 p.m. game vs. Arizona.
The Huskies will salute their fans with Fan Fest prior to this year’s final regular season home game on Sunday.
