FULLERTON, Calif. – Fresno St. starting pitcher Kiley Shae Aldridge held the No. 6 Huskies scoreless while allowing just three hits, and the Bulldogs defeated the Huskies, 1-0, on Sunday at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
Kasey Stanchek made her third start of the season for the Huskies (19-4) and threw 5.0 solid innings but was given the loss to drop to 2-1 on the season. Stanchek allowed one run on three hits while striking out three Bulldogs (12-8) batters.
The Huskies were simply never able to get any sustained offense going against Aldridge, who picked up the win to improve to 1-2. Aldridge held the Huskies to three hits over 7.0 shutout innings, and each hit came in a different inning.
Kelli Suguro led off the bottom of the 3rd with a walk and Jenni McNeill followed with an infield single. After Victoria Hayward sacrificed Suguro and McNeill to 3rd and 2nd, respectively, Hooch Fagaly hit a groundball to the shortstop. Suguro was tagged out at the plate trying to score, and the Huskies rally was snuffed out.
The Bulldogs got their lone run of the game in the top of the 5th on an RBI-single.
The Huskies threatened to score again in the bottom of the 6th when Whitney Jones crushed a two-out double to wall. But she would be stranded at 2nd base, and the Huskies would not get a runner in scoring position the rest of the game.
Kaitlin Inglesby pitched two innings in relief of Stanchek and held the Bulldogs scoreless in both frames.
The Huskies will open their home schedule next Friday, March 14 vs. Utah at 5:00 p.m. in their first game of the PAC-12 schedule.
